Martin Alfke has worked in the IT field for many years and has witnessed various transformations in the field. He finds manual management of IT infrastructures dreadful, error-prone, and no longer state-of-the-art. Martin works intensively with Puppet, uses Docker to decouple applications from the operating system, and doesn’t consider the cloud optimal for all purposes. As a trainer, he imparts his knowledge to others and shares new insights at conferences. A few years ago, he would have called himself a DevOps engineer; today, he prefers the term platform engineer.
